Kuswaffle: Flowers that Bloom at Midnight (Inspired by Yayoi Kusama, Various) Space Donut

$45.00

Flowers were a part of Kusama’s first psychotic break at age 11; while walking near her home in Japan, they began speaking to her. She says in Infinity Nets that while she doesn’t enjoy painting them, she feels compelled to do so, as she does many of the objects she paints while in her dissociative, “obliteration” state.

While I don’t suffer from auditory (often) or visual hallucinations, I do understand the compulsion to paint certain shapes or in certain colors and patterns when my synesthesia picks up on something strongly. I’m grateful that it’s generally a pleasant experience for me.
