Goldberg Variations Aria (Johann Sebastian Bach, 1741) Synesthesia Art
The definitions of art and craft is permeable and changeable over time. Bach was considered a talented craftsman when he was alive but never anticipated being remembered as one of the great composers of his era, let alone one of the greatest of any era, but three centuries after he lived, we not only still listen to his work but go to some of the most famous symphony halls and churches is the world to do so.
No one has ever been able to create a blue rose; every other color exists at the International Rose Test Garden in Portland Oregon (yes, even black) but, for some reason, hybrids that should work to come together as blue don’t. There are very few blue flowers in nature and no blue fruits (blueberries are actually purple and green) making it a very rare creation indeed.
Which is why, I think, my brain paired the aria from Bach’s Goldberg Variations with blue roses.
That or I was just having a weird day. Sometimes, it’s hard to tell.
